I have a new Atrix phone. Great phone except that I sound mushy to everybody I talk with. To run an app that was developed for my business at an acceptable speed the dual core is required. But I can't live with a phone that makes me sound like a cave dweller.
My girlfriend can't understand me when I call her. So she and I swap phones and when she calls me the she sounds mushy like she is calling from the shower.
If I plug in the wired headset the sound is ok, unplug it and it is mushy again.
According to ATT tech support the phone is functioning perfectly, and yes I did sound mushy to them too.
So off the the ATT store. All of their Atrix phones had the same problem. When they called my Atrix from one of thier Atrix's both of us sounded like we were calling from a cave. Both cleared up with the headset.
When we tried a virtually identical phone that looked like it came from the same factory and production line but was sold by another company, that dual core Droid sounded the same until we plugged in the headset.
I'm unable to use a bluetooth headset so I'm stuck with wires if I want to keep the Atrix. But walking around with a phone and wires dangling around my neck just doesn't cut it.
Has anybody else experienced this? Does anybody have a solution?
If I can't find a solution I'm going to have to return the Atrix and get one with great sound. That would mean I'd have to put the app I need on a pad that is compatable. That sucks because then I have to carry both.
If there isn't a solution for the Atrix, then is there another dual core Droid phone that will run on ATT that has great sound?
Thank you for your help,
Sincerely
Bob Lynn

What did they say in the ATT store when you asked them "is there another dual core Droid phone that will run on ATT that has great sound?"

Like I said, the only other one they had sounded just as mushy. I don't remember what brand it was but it wasn't a Motorolla Atrix.

Try the ATT or ATT smartphone sub-forum there for more specifics to see if anyone has a 'fix' yet.

It seems like not everyone is getting poor quality sound. Others have implied they are, and the noise supression and/or microphone may be at fault. Worth checking out if you haven't seen it already.

Well I returned the Atrix to the ATT store. I'm back on my old HTC 8525 for a couple of months until they get the bugs out and there are several mfg's with offerings that are comparable.
Then there will be some reliable ratings and any truly defective phones will be driven out of the market. Motorola (or whatever Chinese Co. did it for them) did a heck of a job on the machine, save one item - the phone. I truly loved everything about it except that few of the people I talk with could clearly understand me.
Onward and upward.
